Episode Summary: Gamification of Success

In this episode you will learn 4 ways that we can gamify success.

  1. Clearly define goals
  2. Build a system of measurable progress toward the goal (set levels)
    • Start slow and build
    • Fun, intriguing, of interest
  3. A notion of increased status when the goal is reached
    • Competition, with self or others
  4. Rewards for achieving goals- recognition

Gamification: The application of typical elements of game playing (e.g., point scoring, competition with others, rules of play) to other areas of activity. Think Fitbit

Why does it work? Forbes estimates that global gaming revenues will exceed $82 Billion by 2017 (that’s next year)

Let’s look at some companies successfully applying the principles:

  • Xerox- no 2-day new hire seminar- instead….an app
  • Hyatt- employee incentives- tokens to gift cards
  • US Army- virtual experience
  • Weightloss industry – health insurance
  • Book on The Shelf
