Episode Summary: Authentic Storytelling Can Make You A Star with Dan Moyle

  • They ask- we answer philosophy of marketing
  • Identify what people are asking, before they are asking it
  • Too often companies give you what they think you want, not what you really want
  • Open, honest, authentic communication
  • Authenticity is the x-factor, the “it” factor
  • Authentic isn’t “hip” or “funny” it is who you really are
  • Step one: know who you are, your authentic self
  • Step two: know your buyer/client
  • Step three: test
  • Find your authentic voice through testing – the market will tell you
  • When we operate within our authentic self it looks and feels easy.
  • Humans connect over stories
  • Marketing is just the right conversation (telling the right story), with the right person, over time
  • Storytelling is naturally within us
  • If you can’t “hire” a storyteller, become a better storyteller by studying the craft, look for experts
  • A lot of us begin with emulation
  • Have a beginning, a middle and an end- don’t forget to have a point
  • Just do it- try- you’ll get better
  • Keep a story bank, a list of stories, ideas and examples you have heard
  • Find your perfect platform. You don’t have to be everywhere (you can’t)
  • If you’re going to be there…be there
  • Create a detailed buyer persona (avatar)
  • Mentorship is trust, challenge and follow through – being deliberate
  • Servant leader, so important in mentoring
  • Empathy is seeing the world from another’s point of view
  • Find someone further along than you are and serve them
